Mood Boards August 2026

I like to keep up the habit of creating moodboards, even when I don't have a project or the time to develop my own designs. It helps keep my brain inspired and tuned in to what's happening in the market. I try to keep them not too trend-focused, though, and make sure to include plenty of art references and even vintage/older fashion references that correlate to what I'm seeing on runways and in shops. I think it helps to maintain a fresh perspective and avoid straight-up recreating those designs.

When we start out in the industry, especially in print studios I think unfortunately, we tend to learn by directly copying what already exists. Eventually, you learn how to take a trend and give it a completely fresh take. So when I mix in all kinds of visual references, it pushes me to think beyond the trend itself.

And sometimes these moodboards are more for my own personal painting projects and the references can be so far removed from fashion or interiors and are simply vibes that get my creativity churning.

I find a good cadence is monthly, though I'll admit I haven't kept that up. Consider this my new challenge. I'll share these periodically, and hopefully they bring some inspiration to others too.
